It became easy, in recent years, to dismiss him as the wisecracking grandpa of the American comic book, a past-his-prime gimmick who cameoed alongside Earth’s angstiest superheroes in the high-grossing Marvel blockbusters of the past decade.

But Stan Lee, who died Monday, was far more than that. It’s no stretch to say that he helped redraw the world of American fiction. And he certainly made sure everyone knew it.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hires a new conservative cartoonist

Four months after the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette fired left-leaning cartoonist Rob Rogers, the paper has hired an editorial artist from across the political aisle.

The Post-Gazette has announced that Steve Kelley, the veteran conservative cartoonist who has worked in New Orleans and San Diego, will be its new political cartoonist. His first cartoon as a staffer is scheduled to appear Nov. 4.

6th Niels Bugge Cartoon Award Winners

Danish organizers say a Belgian artist has won the international Niels Bugge Cartoon Award that this year focused on artificial intelligence.

Lars Refn, the chairman of the international jury, said Friday that Constantin Sunnerberg won the 3,000-euro first prize for his "inspired" cartoon interpretation of AI depicting two robot-resembling figures.

It’s been six months since a wave of protests in Nicaragua sparked violent reprisals by the government of Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo. 

So far, police and paramilitary forces have killed some 350 people with impunity. The terror shows no sign of abating, with Ortega taking advantage of the fact that the world has bigger concerns right now than his small Central American country.

Four pages* of the May 9, 1754 issue of Benjamin Franklin’s Pennsylvania Gazette, including the page with the original printing of the "Join, or Die" cartoon sold for the minimum bid of $40,000

A buyer’s premium of 25% brought the total to $50,000.

Cartoonist axed for ‘Animal Farm’ parody of Likud lawmakers

A veteran Israeli cartoonist was cut loose on Tuesday from the magazine he worked at for nearly three decades over an illustration portraying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud lawmakers as pigs from George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”

The cartoon by Avi Katz drew on a photo of Netanyahu and members of his Likud party snapping a selfie at the Knesset following the passage of the so-called Jewish State law last week.

'New York Daily News' Staff Slashed By Half
