"Yuge: 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump"

From ProCartoonists.

Garry Trudeau is the creator of the comic strip “Doonesbury” and the first cartoonist to win the Pulitzer Prize. Perhaps foretelling the future can now be added to his list of talents…

Nearly thirty years ago Trudeau ran a series of comic strips satirising the narcissistic Trump’s political ambitions. They now appear almost prophetic as the strangely coiffeured one’s run for the Presidency unfolds as a clanger riddled farce.

Khalid Albaih, a Sudanese cartoonist based in Doha, is one of the most poignant commentators of the struggles of refugees, migrants, and victims of war and religious persecutions.

Through his cartoons, like one depicting a black Jesus drowned in the Mediterranean, or an angel holding a dead Syrian child, he not only draws attention to tragedies but also the causes behind them.

Wither Bulgaria's House of Humour and Satire

Michael Kimmelman in The New York Times.

Officials at the Gabrovo House of Humor and Satire, a relic of a vanished regime, on more or less the margins of Central Europe, talk wistfully about becoming a more popular destination once again, if only they could come up with the money and a good plan. If only.
Across the former Communist world museums like the House have been repurposed as ironic attractions for tourists often too young to remember much if anything about the Soviet era. Funnily, the House of Humor and Satire isn’t one of these. It lacks irony.

Touchingly so.

Mike Ramirez Takes up the Bill Clinton ‘Hillary Cartoon’ Challenge

From Mental Recession.

Bill Clinton’s address to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week was supposed to humanize Hillary, make her more relatable, and shift the focus away from her perpetual lies and scandals.

According to Bill, Hillary’s detractors create false impressions.

“So your only option is to create a cartoon, a cartoon alternative, then run against the cartoon,” he said. “Cartoons are two-dimensional, they’re easy to absorb.”

Political cartoonist Michael Ramirez decided the words “your only option is to create a cartoon” constituted a challenge, and he accepted.
