Stripped: The Comics Documentary (1)

Dave Kellett (creator of Sheldon and Drive) and cinematographer Fred Schroeder are now into the post-production process of their Stripped documentary. The feature-length documentary features 60 of the world’s best and most famous cartoonists to talk about the art of cartooning. The two have started a Kickstarter project to raise $58,000 needed to finish off the project. As of this writing they’ve raised just over $27,000 with 28 more days to go.
UPDATE: The target was reached on August 29th. (See story at the very bottom of this post)
Here’s their pitch video and the description below.

Cartoonist Critical of Syrian Regime Assaulted

Prominent Syrian cartoonist Ali Ferzat was beaten Thursday by masked gunmen in Damascus. In recent months, as the government cracked-down on protesters, Frezat’s cartoons had been especially critical of the Assad regime. Anchor Marco Werman speaks with London-based writer and blogger Robin Yassin-Kassab, who has followed and written about Ali Ferzat for many years.

More information in The Washington Post.
You can see more of Ferzat's cartoons on this video:

"All the Art That's Fit to Print (And Some That Wasn't)"

All the Art That's Fit to Print reveals the true story of the world's first Op-Ed page, a public platform that—in 1970—prefigured the Internet blogosphere. Not only did the New York Times's nonstaff bylines shatter tradition, but the pictures were revolutionary.

Lookink back on 9/11

With the ten year anniversary of 9/11 coming soon, American cartoonist Daryl Cagle collaborated on a French book project with Le Monde's front page cartoonist, Plantu. They had a 32 page "conversation" about the ten years since 9/11 in comic book format for an anthology called 12 Septembre published by the big Belgian graphic novel publisher, Casterman.
Find more about Daryl's contribution here.
