Australian advertising companies have rejected a series of billboards supporting a boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics over fears of retribution from China.

Senate candidate Drew Pavlou, who made headlines when he was suspended from the University of Queensland over his protest of the Chinese Communist Party, told Chris O’Keefe Brisbane’s billboard advertisers placed a blanket ban on his campaign materials.

His “tame” billboards depict winter sport athletes under the watchful eye of surveillance cameras amidst the COVID-19 virus.

“Bishopp Billboard informed me that all their steel, the LED screens, all of it comes from China and because of this they will not risk the wrath of the Chinese Communist Party.

“It doesn’t even say ‘Boycott Beijing’ directly, it’s just a criticism of the Olympic Games being held in a country with one million people in concentration camps.”
