On this 24 July 2019, the Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart of the opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet and his former colleagues Önder Çelik, Kemal Güngör, Hakan Kara, Güray Öz and Emre İper have been in custody for three months. 

Musa Kart is serving an unjustified sentence of 1 year and 16 days for "association with a terrorist organization".

The Guardian has come under fire over its coverage of anti-Semitism after the paper refused to publish a cartoon depicting Jeremy Corbyn’s critics and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a negative light and also for the paper’s decision to pull a letter signed by 100 prominent Jews in defence of the Labour leader.

In the United States, political cartooning as we know it is dead. If you draw editorial cartoons for a living and you have any brains you’re working in a different field or looking for an exit.

A political cartoonist accused of making an anti-Semitic image will no longer attend President Trump’s social media summit after his White House invitation was criticized by Jewish groups, Politico reported.

A senior administration official said Ben Garrison will no longer be attending the event on Thursday, according to the news outlet.

"Editorial cartoons … do cause a lot of trouble,' said Nick Anderson, who draws for The Washington Post Writers Group.

MAD Magazine Is Shutting Down

I just heard from a friend of mine who is in a Facebook group with MAD writer Stan Stinberg that, after the next two issues, MAD will no longer be publishing original material. Instead, it’ll publish reprinted material until it’s subscription responsibilities are fulfilled and then the magazine will cease publication.

The Brunswick News newspaper group in Canada canceled Michael de Adder’s contract a couple of days after he distributed a cartoon on Twitter depicting Donald Trump on the fairway, golf club in hand, asking two face-down, drowned migrants, “Do you mind if I play through?”
