The future location of the House of Press and Satirical Cartoons in Paris.

Last week, French president Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a European House of Press and Satirical Cartoons in France. 

Good news for editorial cartooning, of course. I am of the opinion that every country should have a center for political cartooning, or a center for journalism and press freedom, with a section dedicated to political cartoons.

The 3rd Press & Cartooning Global Forum

The Press & Cartooning Global Forum was held on September 28th, 29th and 30th 2021. 

Organized with the active support of Artists at Risk Connection (ARC), an initiative of PEN America, NYC and under the continuing extraordinary circumstances worldwide this '21 edition was convened as a series of videoconference sessions spread over three days. 

Each year since 2017 (when the first meeting was held at UNESCO within the framework of La Presse en Liberté exhibition and its ancillary events) the Forum has brought together high-level international actors working directly with and on behalf of cartoonists; their discrete projects or ongoing programs all address cartoonists and freedom of expression.

The International Salon of Editorial and Gag Cartoon of Saint Just le Martel yesterday announced the death of Gérard Vandenbroucke, its President and founder.

The 35th St. Just-le-Martel International Salon of Caricature, Editorial and Gag Cartoons, held from October 1 to 9, featured tributes to cartoonists Cabu and Siné, who have died recently, retrospectives of cartoonists Bado and Boligan, exhibitions of recent works from Coco, Gibo, Pichon and Samson as well as a review of the year 2016, an exhibition from Cartooning for Peace on the environment and an historic exhibition "Léon Blum: caricatures against the Popular Front".

The "Humour Vache" Prize, for the meanest cartoon on show, was given jointly to Michel Kichka and Khalid Gueddar while the Porcelain Prize, for the most poetic cartoon, was awarded to Gérard Gibo. Italian cartoonist Marilena Nardi was awarded the International Press Award.

The idea for the International St-Just Cartoon Festival came more than 31 years ago to Gérard Vandenbroucke, the mayor. As far as I can tell Gérard has always been mayor of this small town set in rolling french countryside where cows seriously outnumber people.
