Fougasse (1887-1965)


"Fougasse" is a type of bread typically associated with Provence but is also the nom de plume of London born cartoonist Cyril Kenneth Bird. His work first appeared in Punch in 1916 where he became Art Editor and then Editor from 1949 to 1952. He illustrated a number of books, including The Luck of the Draw (1936), Drawing the Line Somewhere (1937), and The Good Tempered Pencil (1956).

Fans of comics, manga, and graphic literature will be clearing their calendars this May to attend the 10th Anniversary of The Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
Taking place May 11th and 12th 2013 at Toronto Reference Library & The Appel Salon, TCAF is expected to draw a record crowd of 20,000 across all festival events, and will reach new heights as one of the most celebrated literary comics events in the world!

13th World Press Freedom International Editorial Cartoon Competition (Results)

The jury of the 13th World Press Freedom International Editorial Cartoon Competition, composed of Rod Macdonell, Shawn McCarty and Guy Badeaux, met last month to choose the winners.
Our picks were announced today at the World Press Freedom Day Luncheon at the Ottawa Congress Centre.
The theme this year was "Hard times and free speech".
