When MAGA censorship hits home

From Felipe Galindo's Facebook page.

The White House published the article: "President Trump Is Right About The Smithsonian", to my surprise, an artwork of mine, displayed at the Smithsonian American History Museum is on a “list” of objectionable artworks (selected by The Federalist, a conservative publication,) stating that the image is "promoting open borders by depicting migrants watching fireworks through an opening in the US-Mexico border wall."

I created that image in 1999 and it has been exhibited and reproduced extensively.
It is part of my series "Manhatitlan: Mexican and American Cultures Intertwined" a project that includes works on paper, animations and a book, it received many awards and it's in many private and public collections, including the Library of Congress.
I am very proud of this work.
I’m also a proud Mexican and American citizen.
Today I am feeling vulnerable too… Is this what the artists in the Hitler days felt when their works were labeled "Degenerate Art"?
Art is powerful, artists should not be harassed or censored.

Other "problematic" work:

Refugees Crossing the Border Wall into South Texas, Rigoberto A. González, 2020

Farmworkers’ Papier-Mache Statue of Liberty, 2000

My Dreams Are Not Illegal, Yocelyn Riojas, 2018
