Illustration agent Anna Goodson has engaged her mob of illustrators to draw their support for the LGBT community in Russia. Goodson wrote on her personal blog that “I have been really disturbed by what’s been going on. I was wracking my brain to try to figure out a way to make a statement.”
The current controversy surrounding “the horrific treatment of homosexuals in that country” has escalated in the face of the Sochi Winter Olympics, with a new law making it illegal to hold public demonstrations for gay rights or to speak in defense of gay rights at all. Since the passing of the law, there have been arrests of gay activists and a surge in homophobic hate crimes.
Goodson asked her illustrators if they could show their solidarity. “The reaction was an overwhelming YES,” she wrote.
Goodson says that she hopes the images will be shared (have a look through the whole collection here) to spread the word.
