Martin Perscheid (1966-2021)

He created more than 4,300 drawings under the title "The Abyss of Perscheid" and became one of Germany's most famous designers.

Martin Perscheid has died at the age of 55 after losing his fight with cancer.

Martin Sonntag, director of the Caricature Gallery, called the loss “dramatic”.

Perscheid's humor “was not refreshing,” said Antje Haubner, program manager for Lappan Verlag, “it was black. He didn't just want to play with his humor drawings, he wanted to bite ”

Martin Perscheid was born in Wesseling near Cologne in 1966. 

Since 1998 his cartoons have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers under the title “The depths of Perscheid”.

In 2002 he received the Max and Moritz Prize for the best German comic series. In 2004 he placed third in the German Cartoon Award as well as in 2018.
