Harvard Faculty & Staff reposts antisemitic cartoon

Harvard University is again embroiled in a controversy over antisemitism on campus, after student groups and a faculty group shared an antisemitic cartoon.

In a statement late Tuesday, Harvard interim president Alan M. Garber condemned the cartoon, calling it “flagrantly antisemitic,” after it was shared on social media by two student groups — the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee and the African American Resistance Organization — and reposted by Harvard Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine.

Yesterday, Twitter launched its logo rebrand, turning its famous bird logo into an “X.”

Since 2022, Elon Musk has said he hopes to make Twitter into a “super app” called X. 

In theory, this would mean the social network would become a catch-all for connecting us in a state of “unlimited interactivity—centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking,” as CEO Linda Yaccarino buzzworded. 

But when the new logo went live, users on Twitter (or X, whatever) noted an interesting facet of the new logo: It looks like shit.

For a few days last June, cartoonist Patrick Chappatte was abundantly called a racist, or islamophobic, or both on Twitter.

The culprit: a cartoon on the anti-abortion decision of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Filipino Artists dare to dissent in online campaign

What started out as a simple image has inspired Filipino artists across the nation to stand up for what they believe in.

Satirical cartoonist Tarantadong Kalbo posted a digital drawing on Saturday, July 17, of “fist people” bowing down to seemingly resemble the fist bump gesture used by President Rodrigo Duterte and his allies. 

The focus of the drawing is on the one fist person, reminiscent of the raised fist used by activists everywhere, who dared to stand up and stand out from the crowd.

Twitter Briefly Suspends Counterpoint's Account

The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists has asked their Twitter followers not to post Counterpoint's co-founder Nik Anderson's cartoon to Trump, his campaign as well as to the White House.

Counterpoint, which published the original cartoon, has had their Twitter account suspended.

Michael de Adder dropped from New Brunswick newspapers

Cartoonist Michael de Adder was let go from all newspapers in New Brunswick. His cartoons will no longer appear in the Moncton Times & Transcript, the Fredericton Daily Gleaner and the Saint John Telegraph-Journal.

On a positive note, he has just finished a book that will be out in September and he still freelances for both The Toronto Star, the Halifax Chronicle-Herald  and The Hill Times. According to de Adder, "It's a setback, not a deathblow".
