Montenegro cartoonist Darco won first prize in the Editorial Cartoon category and the Grand Prize of the 2125 World Press Cartoon competition in Oerias, Portugal.

The World Press Cartoon Oeiras 2025 Jury meeting was held in Algés, Portugal, in early July and the winners were selected.

The winning entries came from Cuba, Germany, Iran, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

The 18th edition of World Press Cartoon will take place in the autumn of 2025, once again in Portugal, now back in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, in the municipality of Oeiras.

The show continues to feature an attractive structure of 10 prizes, including a Grand Prix worth 10,000 Euros. 

We maintain the levels of rigour and quality that have made us the reference salon for graphic humour in the Press.

As previously announced, an unexpected decision by our main sponsor of the last six years has left the World Press Cartoon Board without the means to launch, in the autumn, as is tradition, the call for participation at the following year's contest.

When the World Press Cartoon 2022 exhibition in the city of Caldas de Rainha was coming to an end, in the last days of August, we received information from the mayor's office that it would no longer include support for our event in its annual plan of cultural activities.

«Without prejudice to the substantive value of the works of international scope that give rise to the competition and exhibition – which we recognize – a detailed analysis of the costs and benefits of carrying it out in Caldas da Rainha, in the light of the general panorama of city council investments in the area of ​​culture, not left room for a decision other than its interruption.»

Dutch cartoonist Matias won first prize in the Caricature category and the Grand Prize of the 2122 World Press Cartoon competition in Caldas da Rainha.

World Press Cartoon 2022 in Caldas da Rainha

Once again, World Press Cartoon takes place in the city of Caldas da Rainha, thanks to the hospitality of its municipality, at a time of transition of ruling powers. 

The circumstances of this transition have meant that, in 2022, we did not have sufficient financial means to carry out the traditional prize-giving ceremony, forcing us to comply with only the minimum: the prizes, an exhibition and its' catalogue.

The exhibition will be open to the public on the 28th of May, at the Caldas da Rainha Centro Cultural e Congressos, until the 28th of August.

Marilena Nardi wins 13th edition of World Press Cartoon

The cartoon «Freedom of Expression» by Italian cartoonist Marilena Nardi was awarded the Grand Prize of the 13th edition of World Press Cartoon, the annual celebration of humour art in the international press, which opened its doors yesterday at the Conference and Cultural Center of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal.

The 13th edition of the World Press Cartoon awards will return on June 2 to the Cultural and Congress Centre of Caldas da Rainha, with a great exhibition of the best works published in 2017 in newspapers and magazines from around the world. 

The winners come from eight countries on three continents: Europe, Asia and South America.
