The John Locher Memorial Award

From the John Locher Memorial Award.

The John Locher Memorial Award is a contest for aspiring cartoonists, ages 18-25, whose work demonstrates both clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics.

Single panel, multi-panel, and animated editorial cartoons and comics will be accepted. Both students and non-students are eligible to submit.

The prestigious award includes a $1,000 cash prize and an all-expense-paid trip to the annual convention of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists. Due to uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 crisis, the convention is TBA.

There is no application fee.

The 2020 Locher Award will be accepting submissions from May 1st until June 15th, 2020.

Entries are currently being accepted and can be submitted through this form

More information on the guidelines can be found here.

The AAEC/John Locher Memorial Award was founded in 1986 by members of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC). They felt the need to establish an award that would not only honor the memory of John Locher but also would help discover young cartoonists and stimulate interest in editorial cartooning among college-age students in North America.
