From World Press Cartoon.
The cartoon, which also won First Prize in the Editorial Cartoon category, was originally published on the cover of the P2 supplement of the Público newspaper on October 5, 2025.
«The caliber of the entries in this edition demonstrates that, even in the face of political pressures and the ethical challenges posed by new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, cartoonists remain the guardians of free and biting criticism» states cartoonist and salon director António Antunes.
For his part, Isaltino Morais, mayor of Oeiras, emphasizes that «more than just an exhibition, the World Press Cartoon is a space for reflection, freedom, and pluralism – values that Oeiras will continue to defend and promote through its cultural policy.»
The first-place prizes in the remaining categories went to Joaquín Aldeguer of Spain (Caricature) and Toso Borkovic of Serbia (Gag Cartoon).
The major exhibition featuring all 281 selected works will be open to the public from October 17, 2026, to January 24, 2027, at the Palácio Anjos, located in Algés, Portugal, at the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
