Mark Streeter Loses Staff Position at the Savannah Morning News

From Savannah Now.

Mark Streeter, Savannah Morning News, November 13, 2018

Today marks the end of an era at the Savannah Morning News as Mark Streeter’s editorial cartoon is his last as a staffer.

The move is part of a company-wide evaluation of resources. This process involved several months of interviews and research on how to best use those resources on the topics and stories vital to area citizens.
The Savannah Morning News is owned by GateHouse Media, which operates 156 daily newspapers in 39 states.
Streeter has been a part of this publication’s family since 1974 and his opinions, expressed through his art, have graced our pages since 1985. His voice has been ingrained in this city’s identity.
Agree or disagree with his views and positions, his is must-read content across the Savannah area -- the truest measure of an opinion columnist’s or editorial cartoonist’s skills and success.
Streeter is not only among the best in his profession but also one of the last: fewer than 25 news outlets in the United States today employ full-time editorial cartoonists.
Streeter will be dearly missed by readers but also by those of us who have worked alongside him. He is a consummate professional, and his take on the news of the day is one each of his peers looked forward to seeing.
We wish him the best and hope this is not the last time we see his work.
