The Herblock Foundation has announced that this year’s winner of the Herblock Prize is Baltimore Sun and The Economist editorial cartoonist Kevin “KAL” Kallaugher .
From the Herblock Foundation:
In a distinguished career that spans more than 36 years, KAL has created over 8,000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers. His resume includes six collections of his published work, seven international honors and awards, and major exhibitions in a dozen countries. KAL, a Norwalk, Connecticut native and Harvard graduate is currently the artist-in-residence at University of Maryland Baltimore County.
He has created acclaimed animations and calendars, toured the U.S. with the Second City improv comedy troupe and addressed audiences around the world. In 1999, The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons said of KAL, “Commanding a masterful style, Kallaugher stands among the premier caricaturists of the 20th century.”
