World Press Cartoon faced in 2014 the most serious challenge in its history. In February, when the selection process was already on track, we were deprived of the main sponsor for the exhibition and awards ceremony.
The jury meeting was held in June, but it was not possible to find an alternative exhibition hall and a new sponsor. The complete set of winning cartoons, as well as all the works that had been selected for the main exhibition, were published on our website in October.
The Grand Prix World Press Cartoon 2014 was assigned to Indian cartoonist Shankar Pamarthy for a caricature of Nelson Mandela.
Despite the lack of sponsorship, honouring the commitments made by the organization to the authors, the World Press Cartoon management decided to pay all the money prizes to the cartoonists distinguished by jury.
It was not until the first quarter of 2015 that we have succeeded in bringing together the necessary financial resources to support the high costs of printing our annual catalogue. It is now out there, with the signature of the municipality of Cascais, a famous resort in the Lisbon region.
From now on, Cascais will be the annual venue for the World Press Cartoon main event.
The authors with works published in the 2014 catalogue will receive a copy, as is tradition, and the originals that meet the standards of the regulation shall be returned shortly.
With the support of the Town Hall of Cascais, the World Press Cartoon 2015 is on the road and we call on all the authors to participate with their best works published in 2014.
Because we are already at the end of March, the calendar will be a bit different this year: the final date for acceptance of the works will be April 24, 2015. The exhibition will take place next summer, in the Museum District.
More than ever, your participation is crucial to ensure the future of this important event. We are counting on your support to keep alive the World Press Cartoon!

UPDATE
Following the transition of World Press Cartoon to the new venue of its main event, there was a disruption with the PO box associated with the participating works registration procedures.
It is possible that some packages may have been returned to their senders and we deeply regret this problem.
We apologize to the authors eventually affected by this anomaly.
The PO box address remains the same as usual:
World Press Cartoon AP.1179 EC Picoas – 1050-001 Lisbon Portugal
The deadline for the registration of the competing works was postponed to April 30th.
