On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Swiss Cartooning for Peace Foundation presented the fourth International Press Drawing Prize of the City of Geneva to Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart.
The jury chose Musa Kart, emblematic cartoonist of the Istanbul daily Cumhuriyet for his talent and courage in defending freedom of expression and artistic creation.
Musa Kart (64) spent several months in prison after the July 2016 coup attempt against President Erdoğan.
Accused of "association with a terrorist organization", the court of Silivri sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison on April 26, 2018.
Like fourteen of his colleagues journalists of Cumhuriyet also sentenced to heavy prison terms, he has not been detained pending appeal but remains subject to judicial review and a ban on leaving the country.
